Designed in 1955, Letters is a collage based on curtailed typographical motifs of letters and numbers, enlarged to take on an intentionally abstract appearance. Gunnar Aagaard Andersen (1919-1982) was a pioneer of Danish modernism, known for his experimental works in numerous design disciplines including painting, sculpture and furniture design.

Upholstery Description:
The DKR-2 “bikini” pad for the Eames Wire Chair covers the seat area of the chair and a small portion of the back, leaving an exposed area so you can see the welded wire shell. Each pad is made with a 1/2″ thick extra-firm foam pad with a premium-quality textile of your choosing on the top upholstered surface. A black canvas covering on the bottom surface of the pad helps protect from wear and tear against the wire shell. This is in keeping with the original construction of the 1952 pad which had a burlap backing. We follow this original design as closely as possible; there is a single black button located on the point of the triangular seat cushion and a black string loop on the upper portion. These “tie” together to join the two pieces (hence, the two-piece string bikini reference). A metal wire at the perimeter of the cushion hooks to the underside of the wire chair and holds the whole assembly in place. This wire is included.

Lead time: We are much faster than our competitors but all of our upholstery is still made to order and that takes about 1-2 weeks depending on when you place your order and how busy our shop is with other work. We do have ‘quick ship’ material on hand for our most popular options like black vinyl but be advised that the lead time for most orders is still 7 business days to fabricate plus shipping time via USPS which is usually another 2-3 days. Please allow up to 15 days for leather and custom orders: a custom order means we don’t have the material you selected in stock and have to order it before we can start to fabricate. Allow up to 3 weeks for full-cover upholstery orders. Note: Not all of our upholstery options are available for all chair types, if that is the case it will be noted NA. NA = Currently not available.
Please note, we do not sell chairs. We only sell upholstery. All prices are for upholstery only.
